The aim of the lab is to calculate the amount of soil that has been lost to erosion since the lake

was put in 12 years prior.

 Want to determine how much soil lost (volume), the shape is a prism whose volume can

be calculated by the formula given [V=1/2 ABC]

 To determine volume you must find the lengths (ABC) which are not explicitly given.

To do this use the trailer (which is given to be 10 ft. long) to scale the diagram.

 I measured the trailer w/ruler to be 1.1mm therefore 1.1 mm = 10 ft is your scale

 Next measure the 3 sides w/ruler A=1.1 mm, B=4.2 mm, C=7.1 mm then convert

 Conversions are as follows:

o A – 1.1 mm x10ft/1.1 mm = 10 ft

o B - 4.2 mm x 10ft/1.1. mm = 38.18 ft

o C – 7.1 mm x 10 ft/1.1mm = 64.55 ft

o V = ½ (10) x (38.18 ft) x (64.55 ft) = 12, 322.595 ft
