The impact of the deadly vices of envy and anger has aected our culture and our

behavior. We nd in most relaonships, businesses, and sports; the deadly vice

of envy seems to show up. Merriam-Webster diconary denes envy as painful

or resen!ul awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire

to possess the same advantage. Our culture today, within the business world

paints a picture of what a successful person should look like and then what

happens the compeve people will try to destroy that successful movaon

when they since they will not be that person or noce they are not achieving the

level of growth that the other person is. “Envy involves a sense of inferiority,

which breeds a lack of self-love.” (Deyoung, 2009, p. 45) We destroy ourselves

when we envy others. Proverbs 14:30 states, “A sound heart is life to the body,

But envy is ro6enness to the bones.”(NKJV)

Now anger on the other hand is a strong emoon which most me causes major

arguments that could lead to a fatality in our culture today. People get angry

when things don’t go their way or they feel they are being accused of a situaon.

We see in our culture today in relaonships, where a man or a woman has been

caught in an unfaithful act; the angry emoon becomes out of control and leads

to physical ghts and/or suicidal. There is another side of anger that does not

have to be to the extreme. In our reading we see that there is “Good anger is

expressed in passionate eorts to make sure others get the respect they deserve,

to bring about the end of oppression and tyranny, to give due punishment to

those who cause injury and damage, to honor covenants and promises, to give

equal treatment to the marginalized, and to uphold the law.” (Deyoung, 2009, p.

130)Proverbs 15:18 states “A wrathful man srs up strife, But he who is slow to

anger allays contenon.”(NKJV)
