The Holy Trinity Our Source of Truth

  The bottom line; God is one. The Holy Trinity consists of God

being three persons, yetthese persons are one God, they cannot

be separated (Alberry34-35). God is true to his word and in his

activities and attitudes; God is the God of truth.(Groothuis61)"I,

the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right" (Is 45:19). God

speaks the truth, therefore we are expected to respond to God in

truth as well. "The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who

call on him in truth" (Ps145:18). Since the God of truth is the Holy

Trinity, it naturally constitutes the Holy Trinity as our source of

Truth. The Scriptures use Hebrew and Greek words for truth and

their derivatives persistently. The term 'emet, which is the Hebrew

root related to truth, involves the ideas of "support" and

"stability". From this root stems the notion of truth as faithfulness

and conformity to fact (Groothuis60-61). "The Lord detests lying

lips"(Prov 12:22). In scripture, it states that the Lord detests the

act of lying which is the complete opposite of what He stands for.

The Lord is that much truth that the complete opposite brings Him

despise.
