The theme in A Tale of Tulisa and A Simple Favor is notably similar by the focus created

on the main characters. Tulisa and Stephanie are left to fend for themselves; Tulisa and her

family lost their royal hospitality and went back to their poor, farm life while Stephanie was left

to take care of Emily’s son and become his new mother. Feasibly, another similarity to note is

how Basnak Dau’s mother is comparable to Emily by their psychotic persona to get what they

want. Basnak Daus’ mother wanted to ruin her son’s life and take over the kingdom which she

felt was rightfully hers. She used her confederate, Sarkaukis, to persuade Tulisa into getting what

she wanted. Ultimately, Basknak Daus’ mother did not care about Basnak Daus wellbeing, she

was self-centered and did not care what happened to her son, she just wanted the power she felt

she earned. Likewise, Emily did not care about her son and left Stephanie to take care of him,

because all she wanted in the end was the life insurance policy. Rather than taking her son with
